Happy Birthday, Greenpeace (age 12+)

Aquí vos deixo un pequeno texto sobre Greenpeace para os maiores, para que aprendades algo máis desta organización

Happy Birthday Greenpeace!
On 15th September 2011, the non-governmental organization, Greenpeace, will be forty years old. During those years, it has been acting to change attitudes and behaviour and to protect and conserve the environment.

Greenpeace dates back to its first campaign in 1971, when a small boat of volunteers and journalists sailed from Vancouver, Canada, into Amchika, an area north of Alaska. Here the US Government was carrying out underground nuclear tests. Their boat was intercepted before it reached its destination, but the journey received a lot of publicity. The US still detonated their bomb, but nuclear testing in the area stopped that year.
Since then, Greenpeace has used the same non-violent manner to campaign against all forms of environmental degradation. Their ships, such as their flagship, the Rainbow Warrior, have played an important role in their work. Today, Greenpeace is based in Amsterdam, but it is active in over forty countries. It has 2.8 million supporters worldwide and it encourages many millions more to take action every day.
